Purpose: CRCMC's new re-entry mediation program will provide an opportunity for inmates to resolve issues of family reunification and living arrangements in the homes to which they will be released.
CRCMC's Re-entry Mediation Program is unique. It represents the first-ever direct partnership between a Maryland Community Mediation Center and a local institution. All prior relationships that have been developed by other centers have been formed under the Memorandum Of Understanding between Community Mediation Maryland and the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services.
Why we do it:Re-Entry Mediation gives CRCMC volunteer mediators a chance to support conversations between inmates and people important to them, which helps facilitate their successful transition to life on the outside. The period immediately following release is a crucial and uncertain time. Decisions made and obstacles encountered during this period greatly impact whether or not people find themselves incarcerated again. Making mediation services available to residents at the Montgomery County Pre-Release Center gives them access to a process that can assist them in making plans about what will happen when they get leave prison and mitigate potential obstacles in their relationships.
News:On January 9th, Lorig Charkoudian of Community
Mediation Maryland conducted held a training for experienced CRCMC volunteer mediators to
prepare them to mediate Re-entry cases.
An orientation to the facility will take place at the PRC on January 21st
at 5pm. Plans are proceeding, cases have begun to
come in, and we will soon be making another valuable contribution to our
community of which CRCMC can be proud.
Location:The Montgomery County Pre-Release Center (PRC), located at 11651 Nebel Street Rockville, Maryland, is a unique facility in its own right. With innovative individualized programs and services that address the specific treatment, employment, housing, medical, and other needs of its residents, it provides a comprehensive array of services to support re-entering persons.
